Mind/Body Therapies Studies

Using meditation, guided imagery, deep breathing and art therapy our clinicians are presently designing a program to promote calm and well-being for our children and young adults undergoing stem cell transplant.

In collaboration with Dr. Marcus Mapara, Director of the Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) Program at Columbia University Medical Center, we are also developing new ways for transplant patients to stretch and move while confined to their hospital beds. Our goal is to reduce inflammation and increase survival rates. Transplant patients typically take 20-30 pills per day, so it’s important to find new ways to improve their mood, strength and clinical outcomes without adding more drugs to the arsenal.
